INDUSTRY EXPERT: SCRIBES

Doubling Healthcare’s Capacity Without Dehumanizing It

Canadian health systems are under immense pressure to improve access and shorten wait times without additional staff or beds. Clinicians spend hours each day on documentation, burnout is rising, and one in five Canadians lacks a family doctor. Ambient AI offers a practical path to restoring capacity—not as another IT tool, but as a true clinical assistant. Critical to success is a modern approach to governance, including how health systems are applying structured audits, similarity scoring, and LLM-based secondary review to monitor millions of AI-supported notes and ensure safety, consistency, and performance over time. Walk away with a blueprint to:

  • Measure ambient AI’s impact on documentation time, access, wait times, and burnout, with examples from Canadian ED, mental health, and primary care pilots.
  • Run a measurable 6–8-week ambient AI pilot using adoption curves, clinician champions, and real-time analytics.
  • Implement a lightweight but rigorous surveillance model to keep AI documentation safe, transparent, and trustworthy.

Build a roadmap from AI scribe to AI care partner using transcripts and clinician edits to power follow-ups, tasks, and quality monitoring.
